Just You & Me, Babe © Donna PierceClark ~ This was just a little challenge to myself, an exercise in opposites:  reds, pinks and greens. I like challenging myself to do glass and reflected objects as well. This one was fun to do the green dots on the pink fabric as seen through the green glassware. ~ Below are a few steps along the way My first challenge to myself was to get the drawing just right.  ~ The second challenge was to mix and apply just one color at a time. One color, then one stroke. Then, on to another area of the painting. One color, then one stroke. ~ ~ Once a few local colors were established, the next step was to start finding and applying "mixes" of the two complimentary colors: reds and greens. Then, I started a bit of blending. ~ You can click on any of these photos and make them much larger, so you can see details! Have fun!

Touch of Pink © Donna Pierce-Clark ~ Stages of Touch of Pink ~ First the drawing.....    ~ Then, the initial paint-in, just shapes and colors. ~ Then highlights and sparkles and dots! ~ On to the large easel........ ~ ~ Above is my large studio easel, on which I have started a 24" x 36" canvas in oils. We traveled to Rainbow Bridge on a river cruise several years ago and this canvas was actually begun soon after that trip. I think this poor canvas has been neglected for at least 3 years!  I am so happy to be back to this painting.  Below, you can see a few later stages of development and the photo reference on the computer monitor, from which I paint.  Ideally, I would prefer to be painting on location;  but, I'm happy to use the computer monitor for now. ~ To the left of the easel, I also have a still life table. The owner of this one will have a hard time deciding the best lighting  and where to hang it because in different angles, Evening Waterfall has varied and beautiful presentations! ~ The whole 30 in 30 all in one place........ Liquid Visions - 30 Paintings in 30 Days Alcohol Inks on Yupo January 27, 2014 Red in the Morning © Donna Pierce-Clark ~ Dennis and I love going to a lake, where he can fish, and where I can stand by the lapping shorelines and paint! When we were younger, we used to go boating and skiing. So, we would follow the sailor's old tales........ .........they always proved to be true! So, before planning our trips,  we always look at the sky, to see if it will be a nice day. The night before, if it's a red sky,...well, we pack 'er up! "Red at Night, Sailors Delight!" ~ If it's "Red in the Morning," we might not go. "Red in the Morning,  sailors take warning!"

It was dark and truly just plain ugly! I wiped it. poured alcohol on it, tilted it, wiped it again, tilted it again, added more alcohol. Poor thing! Every painting goes through an ugly stage, but this one was the queen of ugly! I like it now. What do you think?

Liquid Visions - 30 Paintings in 30 Days Alcohol Inks on Yupo January 22, 2014 Navajo Lands © Donna Pierce-Clark There is an area near Page, AZ, where the slot canyons can be entered. They are glorious! They can be treacherous if one does not listen intently  to and follow the leading of a trained Navajo guide. Without warning, the rivers can quickly flood these canyons. The entrance to the slot canyons looks a lot like Navajo Lands . ~ Below are several photos we took of the inside of the canyons. Carved by the movement of water......... ~ ~ Just unbelievably gorgeous! The sun pours down through the narrow opening at the top of the canyon. ~ Here, you can see the back of Brian's head (white hat)  and Dennis, looking up! A little perspective for you of the immensity of the canyon walls. ~ The rushing waters create and re-create these canyons every single time it rains hard! This is why, a native guide is a must! Emerald Isles is my impression a friend's visit a few years ago. Such fun it was to sit and go through her album, and watch her animated facial expressions, crowned with her glorious, long red tresses! She spoke of standing on the edge of the green and white cliffs, overlooking the sea, looking down and watching the waves pound the land. ~ Do you have a favorite place you have visited? Did you know there are 3 types of twilight? Three Types of Twilight We’re all familiar with the term twilight, that period of time just before sunrise or just after sunset. Did you know that there are actually three different twilight definitions? Civil Twilight:  the time at which the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon. At this time, there is enough light for objects to be clearly distinguishable and that outdoor activities can commence (dawn) or end (dusk) without artificial illumination. Civil twilight is the definition of twilight most widely used by the general public. Nautical Twilight:  the time when the center of the sun is 12 degrees below the horizon, and only general or vague outlines of objects are visible. We had wind chills near --40 degrees!!! ~ Dennis had the day off, so that was nice for him. We celebrated our grandson's birthday  for lunch. Good thing it wasn't but 5 minutes away. We had a nice little visit, but went home quickly, as the temperatures continued to fall. He was born on  my Grandmother Hannah's birthday - January 8t. We had a lot of that in our family! Family members born on the  exact same day. ~ Any interesting things like that in your family? Please share!

January 30 in 30 Liquid Visions [Alcohol Inks on Yupo] January 10, 2014 Hell Fire © Donna Pierce-Clark A little diversion from the wind and the water...........Fire. All shape the earth: the wind, the water, and the fire. All cleanse and re-shape whatever they touch. Forces of Nature, The Hand of God. With the Wind and with the Water, something is left behind. But, with Fire, nothing is left behind. At least nothing tangible. If the thing consumed is human, there is a spirit that must go somewhere. Eternity. What is left after the fire? Where will our spirit be, for Eternity?

I'll never forget the land of the Navajo: such a desolate area of our country.
