  1. When my sister and I were young we lived with my grandparents and my Uncle John, just eight years my senior, was very much like my brother. The greatest winters of my life were when I was ages 4-7 and was with my grandparents much of the time. Uncle Johnny would spend ALL day sledding down the big hill out front, when he was bored with that he'd start BLASTING Lynn and I work snowballs. Even two against one, we couldn't begin to nail him as quickly as he'd get to us. He'd usually end with a "technical lesson" on how to pack and throw a great snow ball. Then we'd each make our mark...a snow Angel in the relatively untouched snow of the side hill, then trudge s-l-o-w-l-y into the kitchen to peel off our frozen layers so we could drink in the heart warning love...I mean the hot cocoa, that Grandpa had waiting for us. Oh, to go back...

    1. What a precious, precious memory!!!!!! I so love your uncle John! I am forever grateful that he was there for us when dad passed away. Your family has blessed mine in so many ways over the long long years. Praise the Lord!

  2. I grew up in Springfield, Ohio, and Snyder park was our winter play ground. I learned to skate on the lagoon/pond. But the best times were when the snow was deep enough that instead of plowing the hill street that came down to peanut pond, it was declared closed for sledding! In my mind the whole west side of Springfield came out to sled! I was too little to drive a sled by myself, so I rode on the front with my mom. We would fly between the trees to the bottom of the hill. One time, the snow was so fast she could not steer. I remember her pushing me off the sled just before she crashed into one of the trees. She broke her ankle, but I remember feeling so protected, that my mom would put her life in danger to protect me! I learned a bit about how Jesus loves me so much that He gave his Life. Her ankle healed, we sleded other years, but that year, I learned how much my mom loved me and watched over me, even when we were having fun. Late in life, I carry the thought that Jesus Loves me, even more than my mom did. An eternal lesson learned in the finite moment of a snowy sled crash.

  3. My brother and two sisters would pair up and each pair would make their own snow fort across from each other. Then we would make snowballs and then when everyone was ready we'd have a snow fight. Those were great memories.

  5. My brother and two sisters would pair up and each would make snow forts. Then we would allow time to gather and make snowballs. Then we would all start our snow fight. Those were great memories!

  7. It was November 27th,1969 I was 8 months pregnant and we were hauling items from WI to MN with a trailer behind the car. The roads were slippery with new snow. Just as we came to the crest of a hill the car went one way and the trailer the other. Off the road we slid. SO there I was 8 months pregnant pushing the trailer out of the ditch with my cousin and my husband driving the car. WE did it!! On our way we went. Never thought about that I shouldn't be straining with my pregnancy. Dec 31st Jared was my just in time for taxes baby. How was that night? Low pressure system with lots of snow. Once again, we made it.

    2. I would like to be included in this Christmas Day gift!!!
As you know, I love cold weather and snow and am in my element in such climes. I do not have a fave memory of snow as each year, I make new favorite memories. But I will state my latest snow-capade as my favorite.

I took my snowshoes over to my dear friend's home who was ill with a bad case of sinusitis. I greeted her at the door, handed her my car keys, then jumped into my snowshoes and proceeded to stamp out a greeting to her in her entire yard. I wrote in her virgin snow the following:
"Merry Christmas!" Then I made a heart with an arrow in it and proceeded to decorate the entire yard with random snowshoe tracks!!! Then I went in for tea and laughs.

Touch of Pink, 5 x 7 oil, still life

Touch of Pink © Donna Pierce-Clark ~ Stages of Touch of Pink ~ First the drawing.....    ~ Then, the initial paint-in, just shapes and colors. ~ Then highlights and sparkles and dots! ~ On to the large easel........ ~ ~ Above is my large studio easel, on which I have started a 24" x 36" canvas in oils. We traveled to Rainbow Bridge on a river cruise several years ago and this canvas was actually begun soon after that trip. I think this poor canvas has been neglected for at least 3 years!  I am so happy to be back to this painting.  Below, you can see a few later stages of development and the photo reference on the computer monitor, from which I paint.  Ideally, I would prefer to be painting on location;  but, I'm happy to use the computer monitor for now. ~ To the left of the easel, I also have a still life table. If I am doing a large still life, I'll use this set up and the larger easel. At this time, howev
